Highlighted Projects
Financial Feminism
I used open-source large datasets and analyzed them to answer the question: Is there a financial literacy gender gap? I implemented a bar chart, slope graph, and waterfall chart to visualize my findings, as well as provided current research on the topic. I discussed the potential causes of the financial literacy gap. It was found that women tend to be less confident than men about their own financial knowledge, and only 48% of women invest in the stock market compared to 66% of men.
Rental Prices in Arizona
I analyzed public data from Zillow in order to compare rental prices in Phoenix and Tuscon from 2020 to 2022, and visualized the data in Excel. I found that the rental prices in Phoenix increased by 32% in 2022 compared to 2020, which is striking in comparison to the historical 12-16% increase in a 2-year period. This project is supposed to represent a fictitious local news website and the targeted audience is Arizona locals.
Used Car Market in Phoenix
This project is a fictitious report that is targeted to an executive reporting my findings about the used car market. My hypothesis was that luxury vehicle manufacturers would have a lower average price compared to non-luxury manufacturers, because of depreciation. The dataset, which is of used car listings from Craigslist Auto, confirmed my hypothesis. I found that the vehicle manufacturers with the highest average listed price were Ram, GMC, and Jeep, and that luxury vehicles tended to experience a sharp decline in price in the used car market compared to their original purchase price.
Disability Prevalence of the LA Homeless
This is a TreeMap which visualizes the prevalence of disabilities among the homeless population in Los Angeles, California. Darker areas represent a higher prevalence compared to lighter areas. This report is targeted towards officials in Los Angeles county. I presented background information from the LA Times, and UCLA, and then analyzed data from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority. I also provide a suggestion of further action that the city of Los Angeles could take to improve these findings.
